Electric Guitar Lessons

Maybe one of your New Year’s resolutions was to play electric guitar. You are determined to buy a decent electric guitar to learn on, and you’re determined to learn how to play. The month is now April, and the electric guitar that you so desperately wanted to learn how to play is under your bed collecting dust or tucked away in your closet.

Maybe you thought that playing guitar would be an easy task to accomplish. After all, everyone else makes it looks easy. You may have tried to teach yourself and after a while, your fingers started hurting and you started feeling frustrated because you really had no idea what you were doing. Seems like a lost cause right?

Wrong- learning how to play guitar (acoustic or electric) can be an easy task to accomplish. But to be truly effective, learning how to play guitar is up to you.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is did you give yourself enough time and room to practice every day for several hours a day like you should? Did you really find the guitar lessons you needed or were you trying to teach yourself?

Let’s talk about space. If you live in a busy household, then you may it hard to get the time and room that you need to practice. Your family or roommates may be lenient and sympathize with you at first, but after a week of “Bad Bad Leroy Brown,” they may grumble and soon try to discourage you. Don’t let them discourage you because if they want you to get any better, then they need to let you play in peace.

Examine the hours in your day. What are you willing to give up to practice? Is there any time during the day when it’s just you with no one else around- a “quiet time” so to speak? Is there any extra room in the basement or in the garage for you to practice in? You need to take all of these into consideration and figure out when you will be able to play in the peace and quiet without getting a shoe thrown at your head.

Instead of trying to learn how to play guitar on your own, consider this simple solution: buy a guitar lesson book. Guitar lesson books give you all the information you need and are really good at teaching how to play. This works especially well for people who don’t want anyone standing over their shoulder watching their every move.

However if you like the idea of having someone sit in front of you or someone actually talking to you, then consider hiring an instructor or buying a video or DVD. Some people need to see how it’s done one time and then need to be left alone to do it themselves.

If you have a guitar instructor but can’t wait until the next week’s session, consider doing an online guitar course for added practice. The good thing about the online course is you can sit in your room and listen intently on instructions and practice at your own speed. One of the great advantages of doing an online course is that you can usually purchase an online course for a fraction of the price that you would for a guitar instructor.

Whatever way you choose to play guitar, you do need to practice and stick with it every day. The more you stick with it and practice, the better you will be.
